Excel Truncating Leading Spaces when pasting data

Is there a way for Excel to not truncate leading spaces
when data from outside of Excel has them. For example, I
have a text file where some data has 1 leading zero, and
some has 2, etc. I want to preserve that format when
pasting to Excel, but they get truncated off. Is there a
setting or something I can use to keep them.

Excel XP, Office XP, Windows XP
