Excel will not Open!

As of today i cannot open excel or word - i get the
message
C:\windows\profiles\vicki\application
data\microsoft\internet explorer\quick lauch\microsoft
word.lnk

"The windows installer failed to install the program
associated with this file. Please contact your system
Admiminstrator."
any idea what this means?
