Excel won't open - thinks Excel is being modified by "another user" - any thoughts?

Hey all,

Hoping a few of Office gurus can weigh in on this one:

When I am logged in as myself, and try to open Excel, it takes a few
seconds, then instead of opening, I get a message saying:

'Microsoft Excel' is being modified by another user. Open as
Read-Only?

If I click "OK", it takes another few seconds, then the same message
comes back again. If I click "Cancel", Excel quits unexpectedly.
Seems to work fine when my wife is logged in to her user account.
Anybody ever run across this before? Any thoughts/theories as to how
to fix this would be greatly appreciated...
