Excel/Word '97 won't start after reload

My harddrive bit the big one. Reinstalled ME and reinstalled Office 97. All office programs run OK except Excel and Word. They pop up "application must be installed to run". I've removed and reinstalled several times, no luck!

Have you specifically asked them to be installed on your hard drive. Check
this through the 'custom' selection during install and select 'install on my
computer'
