excel workbook takes minutes to close

whenever i close any excel 97 workbook it takes several
minutes. the macro virus protection is on

please advise

Cleaning the windows temp folder sometimes works wonders.

You may want to take a look at these two sites

Do you save to a network drive? Or do you save locally (C:\ drive)? If you're
saving to a network location, try saving locally to see if that speeds things
up.

If it does, try showing your results to your IT department.
