Excel working extremely slowly or crashing

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther)
Processor: Power PC

I have an iBook G4 Mac OSX 10.3.9 with a 1.2 GHz Power PC processor and I am running Microsoft Excel 11.5.0.

Excel has recently started running really slowly - when I try to open worksheets, save worksheets or copy and paste sections of worksheets. Sometimes I get the spinning wheel for so long that I just have to force quit the program because it also seems to be making other programs on my computer run slowly.

I thought the problem may have been because I had not updated by version of Excel so I updated from Excel 11.4.0 to 11.5.0 but it does not seem to have helped the problem.

I did not think that the excel files I was working on were particularly large (52KB, 328KB, 34.4MB).

Any suggestions/advice etc. would be very much appreciated!

Thanks!

Isa

You're still behind on updates = Office 2004 should be at 11.5.4, so I'd
suggest you first run Help> Check for Updates. You'll need to apply
11.5.1-11.5.4, then use Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions [I think it
may be a bit different in 10.3.x but can't remember what the equivalent is]
& restart your Mac. See if that perks things up.
