Is there a way to connect direct to the newsgroup below via OE6:
microsoft.public.excel.worksheetfunctions
It doesn't appear in the newsgroups' list ..
Thanks

That one disappeared long ago and was replaced by
microsoft.public.excel.worksheet.functions - note the dot before 'functions'
best wishes

Thanks, Don. I'm using OE6 currently to access this newsgroup.
I was referring to the one without the dot (worksheetfunctions)

Thanks, Bernard. There's still some recent posts going there though
(worksheetfunctions), from what I can see in Google.

That NG does not appear on the msnews.microsoft.com list, but you already
stated that<g>

I can access it through my ISP default server "news" but that's the onliest
way I know of.

I use Forte Agent but I doubt any difference with OE.

Forte Agent does allow multiple news servers so it's easy to switch from one
to another.

Only about 50 messages in a month and only one answer from a MVP.
Hardly seems worth the visit. I unsubscribed long ago.
I do not think this is a 'real' Microsoft newsgroup
best wishes

Maybe the only way "to get there" is through Google Groups.

....

So no one else understands how USENET works?

Any newsgroup that's propagated to different NNTP servers lives as long as
there are some servers that carry it. *.worksheetfunctions used be ba
Microsoft-sponsored but no longer is. However, having existed and still
being carried on many ISPs' NNTP servers, it has effectively become the
equivalent of an 'alt.' newsgroup.

I can access it via my current ISP's NNTP server as well as through Google
Groups and AOL (if I'm ever stupid enough to use AOL's newsreader again).

As for it's monthly traffic, it has a heck of a lot more than
*.excel.123quattro. And what does traffic matter? As for lack of MVP
responses, perhaps the ignorant soul who made that comment was too lazy to
check that newsgroup or didn't recognize the names Dave Perterson or Jerry
W. Lewis? It'd seem that person believes only MVPs can answer questions
correctly. Hard to imagine how the willfully ignorant mind works.

But for the OP's question, *.worksheetfunctions isn't available on
msnews.microsoft.com, but that isn't the only NNTP server that includes the
microsoft.public.* newsgroups. To repeat, most ISPs provide them, and there
are also several free access NNTP servers that do.

As the ignorant soul (why not fool?) I must point out that I visited the
site only to answer the OP and did not do a week's research. Of course I
know the people you named. Unlike you, I sometimes make mistakes.
