How can i get a link to open up an Excel file in Excel proper; not in another
browser window.

Try this.

Save the Excel file as an .htm file. Upload it to your server.

On your Desktop, create a shortcut with the following Target: (all on the
Target line.)

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\EXCEL.EXE"
"http://www.yourserver.com/yourfilename.htm"

Upload the Shortcut to your server.

Make your hyperlink to the Shortcut.

When you click on the hyperlink you will be asked if you want to open or
save the file. If you chose open it will open in Excel.
