Excel2007 Pivot Table -- internal settings

Exceo2007 Pivot tables have multiple internal settings -- see list below.
Where do they all get set? What are all the different variables. What do
they impact? Some of them are obvious, but a few are not. I have a couple
books -- but none go into that detail. With converting to Office2007, we
have pivot tables that were "convereted from Excel2003", some built from
scratch in Excel2007, and some created through MSQuery, many edited from old
Excel2003 worksheets. With multiple users, the possibilities are almost
endless.

In particular, I'm looking at the "Mode= " and "Database Locking Mode= ".
We're having problems with pivot tables linked to Access -- if the worksheet
is opened, the database becomes "read only". It's causing a problem with
many databases that are automatically updated, and are now not functioning.
