existing document opens when you start word

when you click on the Word icon an existing document
opens. if you close that document and click for a new
blank document the same document opens. you cant get a
new blank document. is there some type of template active
that is overiding things? how do i stop this?....thanks.

The document that is opening is normal.dot, a file that
saves various settings and macros. All new documents are
based on this so any text in the document appears in
a 'blank' document.

Find out where the file is located by going into
Word's 'tools' menu, options, select file locations.
normal.dot will be the folder specified in 'user
templates'.

If you have no special settings, you can just delete the
file and a new one will be created.

Otherwise open the file for editing by file>open and
browse to the file and open it. Delete the text and save.
