Existing files do not appear when using the Word|Browse dialog....

This is really weird so here goes....

When a user goes into Word and then clicks file|open and selects browse they
are unable to see any of the files they have previously saved. If they then
go into Windows Explorer and look in the folder they DO see the files. They
then go back into Word and click File|Open and select browse and are now able
to see the files.

Anyone else ever heard of this kind thing?
Please help.
