"Expand timephased data.." impasse; actual work import from ext sy

D

datatape

Hi all,

The consideration is that, using Project 2003 Server, I suffered a huge
increase of insertion in the SQL database (the proportion is more than 1 to
100) because of the selection of the "Expand timephased data in the database"
option in published projects containing assignments. Said increase has
determined an unacceptable decrease in performances (lengthy project savings).

The issue anyway is: I wish to import actual data (actual work) from an
external system (HR system) in the EPM system. Is there an optimal
method/tool? Are expanded timephased data in the EPM database necessary to
reach such goal?

Any consideration will be helpful.

I do not believe that expanding the timephased data is necessary. It is
really just meant to make querying the database easier. Obviously there isn't
any more real data in the database using that feature, but it is stored in a
manner that is easier to query.

As for the best method to integrate with your HR system, that completely
depends on which system and which data. Certainly it is possible, but the
best method is impossible to determine without some analysis of your
requirements.
