Expanded Subject on rollover no longer works

I've had Outlook on my system for quite some time. Recently, the feature where the Subject field
is expanded when you roll over it if it is greater than the column width has stopped working. I've
just upgraded to Outlook 2003, and it still doesn't work. I've hunted all around the format
columns, customize current view, options, and settings, and still can't find it. Outlook Express
on the same machine is able to do it. Where do I find the switch to turn this back on?

Thanks in advance for your help.

If you click on the subject, does the tooltip work?

No, a single click does nothing, a double click opens the message, a right click gives me a menu of
choices, but there is nothing under the Options choice that refers to tips.

Hmmm, interesting. I just received a message with a really long subject. Not only is it longer
than the column width, the subject is longer than the window width. As I roll over it, the subject
is displayed, but only that portion which is wider than the window. It's like the Outlook window
has focus, and is taking priority and occluding the popup/tooltip/subject window.

Any idea what's doing that?

Actually, what does appear is the little bit of the tooltip between the right hand slide bar, and
the edge of the Outlook window. If I have another Outlook window below it, and to the right a
little bit, whatever is over the toolbar area of the other window shows up completely. Or, if it's
lined up below the toolbar area, only those portions that line up with the other windows slide bar
and window edge show up.

Does any of this make any sense? I'd be happy to create a picture and send it to anyone
interested.

I must be going crazy. After being gone all day, now things are working again. I did make some
changes to tooltips in Display Properties/Appearance/Advanced, but it didn't seem to affect
Outlook, so I changed most of them back again. The only thing I didn't do was restart Outlook,...
until now. That must have done it.
