Expected version not found

I downloaded Office 2000 Security Patch: KB822035. I tried to install it.
The installer tells me that “The expected version of the product was not
found on your system.†However, I’m composing this message in Word 2000.

Any ideas?

Did you install Service Pack 3 for Office 2000 before you tried
to install the KB822035 update?

I just tried to load office updates in general. I got a screen indicating
that I should have an ActiveX bar, and to click if I didn't have that bar. I
didn't have that bar, I followed all the fixes recommended, and I never got
the ActiveX bar. So the answer to your question is "no". Microsoft office
so far won't let me install upgrades.

The "expected version" that KB822035 is looking for is Office
2000 with Service Pack 3. You get the "expected version" error
message because you have Office 2000 without Service Pack 3.

See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304498 "How to troubleshoot
failures updating your Office installation from the Office Update
Web site".

Alternatively, you can manually download and install Service
Release 1a and Service Pack 3 for Office 2000. You can download
the full-file version of SR-1a for Office 2000 by going to
http://www.microsoft.com/office/orkarchive/2000ddl.htm and
clicking on the link for "Office 2000 SR-1 administrator updates
- updated May 12, 2000". You can download the full-file version
of SP3 for Office 2000 by going to
http://www.microsoft.com/office/orkarchive/2000ddl.htm and
clicking on the link for "Office 2000 Service Pack 3" (revised
Nov. 13, 2002).
