Explain the meaning of the hour glass symbol that often appears.

Can someone explain the exact meaning of the hour glass symbol that often
appears when the computer is preforming a function and what is it asking the
operator to do while the hour glass is on the screen??

Very simply, your computer is working on something. I usually tell people
that the computer is thinking. As for what you do while you got the
hourglass - get a cuppa tea; hug your spouse, child, or both; take a potty
break; get a snack. Chances are it will be done whatever it is doing by the
time you get back. If not, I want to know how you got my craptop? I told my
boss that doing anything on it is like getting pecked to death by a duck.
It'll succeed - eventually.

It is there to tell you NOT to start anything else as a process is already
running that is taking up a reasonable amount of available resource.. if you
want to see less of it, get more RAM installed..
