explorer.exe is using all CPU power

hi
Having recently set up a new internet account in wanadoo in France, I have
noticed several problems
Firstly Word crashes when anything is tried in it.
Secondly, I cannot delete any Word files.
I ran Word from the Run> ... /a command, and also changed files in startup
path to .old, instead of .doc
This didn't help.
Also removed as many .tmp files and ~$).do? files from the system as possible.
This also didn't help.
From about 10 seconds after the computer isstarted, I notice in task manager
that explorer.exe is using 99% of the CPU. This doesn't change no matter what
and everything is slow.

Any suggestions???

looks like you got a bunch of adware or spyware or a virus. you can get all
three free adware at www.lavasoft.com google Spybot search and destroy and
google AVG free personal edition. Update them all run them all and reboot.
should take care of it.

no unfortunately that didn't seem to work
Am running MCAffee and have installed MemTurbo3, Microsoft anti spyware,
Spybot search and destroy, but stilll have explorer.exe using all of CPU.
IS THERE ANY SOLUTION - notice that a few people have listed this problem on
this site, but no-one seems to have acknoledged a solution. HELP!!!!!

Hi, Riko. Probably no "solution" because there's a gazillion reasons for a
problem like this. For one thing, Explorer is running "all the time", so it
makes me think you've got hard drive cleanup to do. Take ALL the steps:
http://www.officearticles.com/misc/how_to_clean_up_your_hard_drive.htm
Whatever MemTurbo3 is, I'd uninstall it. The only google search I get on
that is cracks, and you're just asking for trouble, if you ask me. Most of
those programs do things to your system that you can do manually. If you're
still having issues after cleaning up your hard drive, hit Start-->Run and
type msconfig and hit enter. Go to the Start tab. See what's running. You'll
find a list of programs that could be in there, and whether they're useful
or not, here:

This doesn't seem like an Office issue, so if you continue to troubleshoot
this, I'd go to the Windows newsgroups.

Anne wrote a good answer and that's what I would have tried next I did a
search too for MemTurbo3 and all I got was cracks and serials most of which
contain hidden viruses and other problems I stay away from those things, seen
too many pc's crash because of cracks and such. Nice answer Anne.
