export failure in OE 6

scenario: old computer: win98, OE6 with email in inbox folder. New computer
with XP and Outlook 2003. Tried to export the messages but I received an
error where it cannot export the messages due to a failure with MAPI.
Nothing in KB on error. No problem with exporting address book.

Is there some other way to get the messages out?

I cannot find OE in XP (tells me that my IE version is more recent when I
try to download from tucows) as I'm able to move the files between machines.
Old machine goes in trash heap when I move these 100 or so emails. Tried
mailing them but Outlook 2003 discarded the email as a "threat" because of
the attachements (I dragged the entire inbox to a new message).

Any thoughts?

Finally got OE6 to work on the new computer and export worked fine.

We'll need some clarifications:

1) How are the old and new systems connected?

2) Have you looked into using WinXP's FAST utility? See this page for info:

3) FWIW, OE is part of IE (which is part of the OS), so there's no need for a
download of OE.

If you use FAST, you can transfer the OE data to your new system and then
transfer it to Outlook, hopefully without any error messages.
