Exporting a distribution list

I am trying to export a distribution list to excel. What is the steps that
need to be taken. I can manage to export contact details that are not
allocated to a distribution list.

DLs don't survive exporting or importing. You can, however, save them as
Tab-Separated Value files (text). Exactly what is your goal?
