Dear all:

I have been trying to create some graphs for a presentation and have
stumbled across some questions.

Assuming I create these graphs or charts in Excel can they be exported with
a transparent background so as no to interfere with other elements in my
slides ? In what file types can these graphs or charts be exported ? GIF,
JPEG, PNG, TIFF, ... ? PNG would be nice as it does support transparency for
backgrounds and more colors than GIF.

What are your suggestions and experience with this subject ?

Thank you in advance,

Joseph

Hi Doc-

XL has no provision for _exporting_ charts. They can, however, be
copied & pasted into just about any other type of file. If the chart
has the Chart Area Color set to 'None' it will paste into some file
types as transparent (such as a Word document).

You can also paste into a new Photoshop (or other graphics app) file &
save in any format supported by that program.

BTW- I appreciate your opinion on PNGs, but unless you stay with png-8
you're still limited to 256 colors. PNG-24 supports 48-bit, but both
are still a little "iffy" for some purposes - especialy internet. Not
all browsers support it, and both Mac & Windows systems sometimes need
some adjustment for pngs to display.
