Expressing projects on hold

Greetings:

Can anyone recommend a best practice for indicating that a
project is on hold?

We have already added a custom field with various project
status categories that reflect our SDLC including "On
Hold."

Wondering best practices to set the tasks, project dates,
resource assignments, dependencies, etc to indicate that,
for example, a proejct underway in the 1st qtr may be
paused, to resume with the same resources in Sept.

Thanks,
SBelling

Very good question! You have already taken the first step I would have
recommended, which was to create a custom enterprise Project outline code
field which designates the project's current status in the system, such as
In Progress, In Planning, On Hold, etc. Make sure you use an outline code
field for this purpose, so that you can use this information in the
Portfolio Analyzer.

The second step I would use personally would be to reschedule uncompleted
work in the project to the anticipated future date on which production is
expected to resume. To do this, open the project plan and complete the
following steps:

1. Click Tools - Tracking - Update Project
2. Select the "Reschedule uncompleted work to start after" option
3. Select a date that is the day BEFORE which you will resume work on the
project
4. Make sure the "Entire Project" option is selected
5. Click OK

After doing this, you may also wish to remove the future rescheduled tasks
for this project from each user's timesheet in PWA. To do this, complete
the following steps:

1. Click Tools - Build Team from Enterprise
2. Set the Booking value for each team member to Proposed
3. Click OK
4. Click Collaborate - Publish - All Information

When your project is set to resume production, you may wish to redo the
first set of 5 steps when the actual resumption date is known. You will
also need to redo the second set of 4 steps, except on step #2, you will
need to set the Booking value to Committed. Hope this helps.
