External links updation for files sent via mail

Hi,

I am receving Excel files through e-mail, which contains
some external link. On opening file, Options are to
either update links or dont update. On choosing either
the instead of original values, it is giving error.

I am using Office 2003. It would be great , if any body
could help me on this.
