External users access PWA

Debbie

I have created a project server for our internal users. Since we are a
consulting group, the consultants want certain members of their client base
to view the consultants' progress in PWA.

In order for a user to see Project Web Access, these people need to have a
login to our domain. Correct or incorrect? If this assumption is incorrect,
how do we go about allowing users outside of our domain to see PWA without a
login to our domain?

Dear Debbie,

It seems like a simple question but it really is not.
To answer your first question no, they probally do not NEED to have access
to the domain with a domin account but that very much depends on your
configuration and what data you want them to be able to view or access on the
system.
For instance if they are an external Client or Consultant that needs to
access the information via Project Professional then you may need to assign
the an active directory account.
Have you thought about VPN and a terminal services server?
Have you read the configuration planning guide?
What is the current configutaion?

These and other questions will help me to help you.

I have thought about a vpn and terminal server, however, this would still
require the outside clients to have a log in to our domain -- which is what
we want to avoid.

Other than creating a server and database ino our DMZ is there a way to
allow the clients to see info in PWA without creating accounts in our domain?

Debbie:

This is well covered in the Project Server Installation guide. You can
accomplish the authentication using either domain or local logons with the
architecture described in the guide. I prefer domain authentication with
very restrictive security.

Thank you. I did see this in the installation guide. Something to pass on
to my leadership team.

Thank you.
