Extra Section Break

I have a document that has a report, then a section break (next page), then a
table starts the next page. The table goes on for two pages. The weird
thing is that when I'm in the header at the top of the first page of the
table, it says I am in Section 3; but when I go to the second page, it says I
am in Section 4. I went into normal view and do not see another section
break. I even searched for section breaks and another one does not show up.
I did notice that if I am at the bottom of the Section 2 and I cursor down to
the next page (which is the first cell of the table), it jumps from Section 2
to Section 4.

What happen to Section 3? I don't want an extra section and I can't get rid
of it.

Any suggestions?

And look for your section breaks.
Often, they are hidden off to the right. Sometimes, temporarily
resizeing your document page width helps them to be seen.

Or, more simply, set the view to Normal.

Just so you know. Normal view did not show that hidden section break because
I had used that from the beginning to find the extra section break. The only
thing that worked was what Ann told me to do.

One of the things I do to avoid the problem you had, Debra Ann: I always hit
return before I insert a section break and, whenever possible, I also make
sure that THAT paragraph (the insertion point for my section break) is
left-aligned. They can become "hidden" if they're right-aligned.

Then we are not talking about the same "Normal view" or there was some mild
corruption in your document (or there was a weird combination of factors
that produced what you observed, in which case, if it is possible, I would
like to have a look at your document if you still have it).

If you do View > Normal you will find that all breaks (page or section)
occupy the full width of the screen. regardless of their actual position in
relation to the text when you are in Print Layout view. The only thing I can
think of that may make it difficult to spot the break is if you format the
beak itself to 1 pt and that the break is just before/after a table. In such
case, even by increasing the margins, it will be difficult to see.

I tried for 15 minutes to have a "hidden" section break in Normal view. I
assumed that in your case you had two consecutive section breaks just prior
to a table, one of them "Next Page" and the other "Continuous". I could not
succeed in hiding any break in Normal view, unless I "cheated" by setting
them to hidden or 1 pt.
