Extra spaces in words using Times New Roman Font

I am running OS10.3.5 and use Word Office 2004 for Mac. I use a HP
Laserjet 1120 printer. Whenever I use the font Times New Roman,
extra spaces or half spaces show up randomly in the printed text
making it somewhat difficult to read. This does not show up on the
screen, and it doesn't seem to be a problem when I use an HP deskjet
3320 printer. It is also not a problem with other fonts that I have
tried. Any ideas? (After my computer guy worked on my computer one
day, the fonts suddenly started working fine for a few days, then
later started showing up with extra spaces again. He doesn't know
what he did or could have done.) Any help is appreciated.
