Extract text from Word and unrecognized characters

Hi

I am parsing a Word doc and pas the text to another app (first saving to a
textfile)

In the Word Doc all looks fine but the text I parsed has unrecognizable
characters

One instance is a dash(-) in Word comes across as a different character

Is there a way to trap the characters that will not be transformed when
wriiten as text or someway to get the correct character set ?
