Extracting Month From Date

My question is:

If entry on Cell A1 (date format) is, e.g., "September 27, 2004
(without the quotes), is there a formula that will give "September
(without the quotes) in Cell B1?

Format cell as general

If it is just the month that you want to show then format the cell as "mmmm"
(without the quotes)

In B1, put the formula =A1 and format B1 with the custom number format "mmmm"
