extracting placing coordinates from excel table

Hi there!

As writen in the subject, i have to import data from an
excel table with placing coordinates and place
shapes over a map in the locations given by the table.

How shall i do it?
Probably i have to use visual basic, right? I have
absolutelly no experience doing that. Where can i start
looking for info and help?

have you rather considered using a product like MAPPOINT, which is designed
for mapping?
