Extranet/SSL setup

I

Ian Wolstenholme

I urgently need some information on the specific steps involved to install
Project server 2003 to allow Extranet access. I have reviewed the
installation and configuration planning guides but these don't appear to be
too specific on the exact steps on how to deal with this. I'd appreciate
your assistance.

Thanks

IMO, the installation guide has very good instructions on this. Is there
something in particular you don't understand?

Hello,

I have just setup Project server for a client of mine and they also
want to allow external users to have access to the Web access client.
They will only be documenting there tasks completions. In the
installation guide it says I need to install another instance of PS
2003 and WSS....then make some registry changes and such. Is that the
only way? Can someone explain options in summary? Like:
1. Install PS 2003 on another server pointing to the PS 2003
server..IIf virtual, how does that work?
2. Using Citrix - (how?)
3. Terminal Services (how?)

I am not a Network guru by any means so I am needing a clearer
explination on installing another instance of PS2003 to allow extranet
access. Is that a virtual server? Do I need to tell my client to make
room on another server so I can install Project Server on it?

Any guidance on this matter would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

The same advice applies to inquiry. Is there something you don't understand
about the installation guide instructions for installing a second front end
in the DMZ? These work a treat.

As for Citrix or Terminal Services, both require a server with a public IP
address or a VPN connection. If you've already got one of these pointing to
the Internet, you're in good shape. If not, the second front end is probably
a more economical solution.

Hi Gary,

I really appreciate your answers on this website, they have been
invaluable to me.

I do understand the manual on installing a second front end but that is
not an option this company is going to do right now.

They just want to "Open UP" some ports to allow connectivity to a few
clients that have tasks updates to enter in on a particular project.
(Web access of course)
Here is the question he had: "Why can't we just open up whatever
ports we need and allow external access?"

The Citrix or Terminal Services is an option but they would have to do
that for all of the clients. They we just asking why they needed a
terminal emulator.

Again, Thanks in advance for you assistance!

Your biggest challenge is authentication. There's nothing stopping you from
NATing a http: call to the server. Use Project Server Authentication and
forget about using SharePoint.
