Extreme Delays using Open file Dialog

All my MSOffice applications and my Visual Studio applications are having
extreme delay problems with the File Open dialog. I am waiting minutes
between movements from one directory to another. I am thinking something is
corrupted realted to a common file open dialog., but repairing just one of
the applications failed to repair the problem.

I don't see any articles on this. can some one point me in the right
direction to get this fixed.

products especially OUTLOOK. It's making me crazy!
I've downloaded all Service Packs, virus scans, etc.
I've shut off the firewall and disabled the anti-virus ---
nothing seems to work. Please email me if you find the
