Failed Downloads

I cannot update my Office simply because for some reason the "Download the
Microsoft Office Genuine Validation Active X Control for Office Online"
fails to install. How can I correct this? Has IE7 any influence on this?

Maybe;
Did you not see a IE warning, on one of the bars, from recollection you have
to specifically allow this Active X
Perhaps post to an IE group, or windowsupdate group for more specific
details
