Failed install of SP 3 Office 2000 under Win XP

With a new hard drive, I installed Win XP + SP 2, Norton SystemWorks 2003 and
Office 2000 Premium. SP 1A for Office installed but SP 3 fails, even with
anti- virus turned off.

Ron in Palo Alto,
Likely that you will need to uninstall Windows XP sp2:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;875350
update your older version of Office then re-apply sp2 for Windows.
For further user reference on uninstalling sp2, search here:

Older versions of Office (2000, XP) are best installed/updated prior to
Windows XP sp2.

I had a similar problem. It was solved when I downloaded and installed SP2
for Office 2000 manually, rebooted and then installed SP3 again.

Succes,
