Failing to register Office 97 with XP

Good Morning Bob (In Brisbane anyway). This is the first
time I have used this system so I hope I have done it
correctly.

My probblem is with Office 97 being installed in Windows
XP.

I get the following message;
Object ID 10006: Regfileobject
Failed to register srg file
g:\ (my cd drive) aamsstp\bs96se.srg

One outcome is that I can not get spell checking in
Outlook Express.
Another problem is that when firing up the Office
installation CD, XP it will not open the setup box. I have
to do it manually through explorer.

I have also unloaded it fully and reinstalled without
success.

Is this my problem only as I have combed through knowledge
base for what seems hours without success.

I hope you can help or I may just have to go to Ofice XP.
