Failure to send/retrieve mail from server

Bernie Deitrick

Hello all,

I recently had a disk problem, and used a disk utility to replace my hard
drive with a larger drive. Everything worked, with one exception: Outlook
XP now fails to send or receive my messages from my server. It isn't a
server-side problem, since I can send/receive using OE6, using the same
settings.

I tried deleting the account and re-creating it, but that didn't help. I
didn't want to try deleting and re-installing Outlook, not knowing what I
will lose if I do that - but will if that is what it will take to fix this
problem.

Thanks,
Bernie

What happens when you try and send/receive messages in Outlook? Any error
messages?

Jeff,

The Error Message is:

An unknown error has occurred. Please save any existing work and restart the
program. (Account: "Bernie's Mail', SMTP Server" 'mailhost.att.net', Error
Number: 0x8007007e).

Thanks,
Bernie

An unknown error has occurred. Please save any existing work and restart the
program. (Account: "Bernie's Mail', SMTP Server" 'mailhost.att.net', Error
Number: 0x8007007e).

That error means "module not found" - whatever *that* means ;-). In all
likelihood it means that something that Outlook needs is missing. Make
sure that Outlook Express has not been removed from the system, as Outlook
uses one of its components to send and receive Internet mail. If OE is
present, try Help -> Detect and Repair. If *that* doesn't work, try
reinstalling Outlook - your current profiles will be preserved and you
should not lose anything.
