Falsely accused of having MS Project

I'll try to keep this short.

I have MS Office 2003 on my home computer. I believe it's the Premium
version (one notch above Small Business Edition and one notch below the
biggest version). MS Project was not part of the package when I got it. I
don't use Project and there is no shortcut on my Start menu to invoke
Project.

I had some anomalous behavior with Outlook so I went to the Microsoft
support site for help. The site required that I click a button to validate
my installation of Office. I complied. The validation failed. When I
clicked to see details, it said that "Microsoft Project 2002 is not
activated." I was instructed to enter the serial number from the Certificate
of Authority on the back of the CD cover.

Well, I have no CDs for Project. I tried entering the two (2) serial
numbers on my Office CD but neither worked. Apart from a CD for Visio, I
have no other CDs for MS Office.

I suspect that some component of Project is indigenous to Office and that
Microsoft is detecting this component and thinking I have Project installed.
So, what am I to do? How can i get around this? Thanks for any guidance.

I figured things out. My computer originally came with Office XP. I
upgraded to Office 2003 a year or two ago. The copy of Project is a remnant
from Office XP. It was a free trial version that came with the computer. I
never used it and never knew it was there.

I checked Add/Remove Programs and it did list MS Project 2002. I could not
find a shortcut anywhere in the Start menu so I rooted around in the Program
Files folder and found an executable that started it. I got a message that
said my trial version had expired, so I couldn't do anything with it anyway.
I removed it and now I pass validation.

Thanks for all the tips.
