family key

Do you know what the definition of a family key is? I got this question on
an interview. I've heard of self-joins, concatenated key, candidate key and
alternate key but never family key.
Please explain.

Hi

Not sure if it's the same thing you were asked about but there is a very
common programme that some firm's use to keep track of what is going on (on
thier systems). Basically it's a key logger (there are many others) and
reporting software. The name is Family Key. I think it's marketed a parents
who want to know what thier kids are up to on the net - but firms use it also
for thier uses ??

Not even sure if it's legal -

I've heard of Parent and Child tables to describe relationships, but nothing
like a Family Key.

Google didn't even turn up anything when I searched on "database Family Key".

that is what I found, I think this recruiter knows a little bit about
databases enough to not make any sense and he is just worried about hiring

I've never heard anyone using the term Family key.

However, I can easily imagine someone using the term in place of Foreign key
(because, hey, Family denotes a relationship better than Foreign does...,
right? Its also warmer and fuzzier...)

I could also see it being used as a substitute for Combination key (the
combination of multiple fields into a "family" to form a unique index on a
table).

Not rushing to join either bandwagon, atm.
