My trial version of office 2003 expired Friday. I purchased the full version
and received my key but was unable to install. Received error message
"Installation ended early because of error" NO other information was given.
MS Online transaction services sent me to the following address
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;89630 1 which
instructed me to remove the trial version and re install it form the MS
website.
I have now downloaded the trial version and it does not install. I receive
"Fatal error" as it is extracting. Please help; I am in midst of doing taxes
and have spent 2 days trying to remedy this.
Thank you

Thank you. Have downloaded utility but it gives very serious warning about
likelihood of having to re install many other programs....some I did not even
know what they were in the dialog box...how much does the utility really
affect?

You haven't read the KB properly. It says:

"Provide a dialog box where you can select one or more programs that
were installed by Windows Installer. You select the programs on the
Installed Products list in the Windows Installer CleanUp dialog box.
After you make this selection, the utility removes only the Windows
Installer configuration information that is related to those programs."

You need to select only Office 2003. DON'T DELETE anything else unless
you have the installation CDs with you and related serial numbers.

OK now delete [or rename it to OFFICE11_old] the folder where trial
version was installed. It should be somewhere like:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11

This should ensure that you can install in a new folder.

I suggest get a new one just in case the old one is corrupt. Make sure
you are saving it to your HD so that nothing goes wrong if the internet
crashes. I like to have it on my HD before installing it.

Also use a new serial number which you can get at the time of
downloading.

OK now I need to go for my regular jog so see you later during the day
or early tomorrow. You may not know but I am in the UK and the time is
05:00 British Summer Time!!!

hi
have tried event viewer and have some info that i hope helps : event viewer
System I found errors around same times involving Service control manager
Description: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to
load" I was directed to the help & support center and found following info:
"
Version:
5.2
Symbolic Name:
EVENT_BOOT_SYSTEM_DRIVERS_FAILED
Message:
The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: %1

Under Applications there was no corresponding error message at same time but
several errors throughout that could be times of attempted install involving
"MsInstaller" and "VBRuntime"...?

under applications the VBRRuntime had no further info, the msInstaller had
following:

Product: Microsoft Office Standard Edition 2003 - Update 'Security Update
for Outlook 2003: Junk E-mail Filter (KB913161): OUTLFLTR' could not be
installed. Error code 1603. Windows Installer can create logs to help
troubleshoot issues with installing software packages. Use the following link
for instructions on turning on logging support:
