Fatal Error when attempting reinstall or repair

S

Steve C

When attempting to repair or reinstall my Office Professional 2003 on my
Windows XP Pro, I keep receiving a fatal error message that states that the
reinstall or repair was halted. Should I uninstall Office, and then reinstall
it or are there other suggestions? All valid help is appreciated.

Hi, Steve C,

Would you post all the text of the error message here, please?

Are the applications working? What is the reason for the repair /
re-install?

Not exactly. When opening a document, for example, it reflects that I have
Office XP Professional, NOT Office Professional Edition 2003, like I had
before. Does that help?

Well, sort of...

If Office 2003 isn't working properly, yes, you could try to uninstall it
first, then re-install it. You might also read those two text files to see
if they give you any clue as to why setup is failing.

If all else fails, try using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to remove
all installer references to Office 2003, then re-install it.

You may still have Office XP components installed, and that's okay (as long
as you want them). If you don't want them, use the Windows Control Panel's
Add/Remove Programs applet to uninstall the things you no longer want.
