I have sub domains and wish to have a different favicon for each. i have
tried to place the favicon file into the sub domains folder but does not
work.

how can i do this please.

are you accessing these subdomains through a browser like this:
subdomain.example.com, otherdomain.example.com or their folder paths?

try adding this to the head of your page (with the path to the image altered
to reflect your parameters obviously):
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://nedp.net/favicon.ico">
