Field Codes and Hard Space

We are in Word 97. Is there a way to keep a field code and
the text following it together on one line. For example,
? 2,000. A hard space doesn't seem to work between the
symbol (field code) and the 2, so the euro symbol and the
number are on separate lines.

We have to use a field code for the euro because the
regular euro symbol does not print out for us.

You can keep text together by using a non-breaking space
(CTRL+SHIFT+SPACEBAR). Click on the "Show/Hide" icon on the Standard
Toolbar to see what it looks like from a hidden code standpoint.

The likelihood is that the nonbreaking space is not working for you because
there is a space at the end of the field itself. Press Alt+F9 to examine the
field code. There is always a space at the beginning and end of every field
code, and ordinarily this does not result in a space in the field result,
but in some fields it does. I'm not sure which field you've used, but this
is a failing of EQ fields, among others. Try deleting the space at the end
of the field code, then Alt+F9 and F9 to update the field and see if that
allows the nonbreaking space to work.
