Field too small to accept the amount of data

I am moving the Access database to Sql server. On conversion of one of the
queries I get the message "Field too small to accept the amount of data you
attempted to add". When I exclude one of the fields from the query it works
fine. But I never had any problems when the backend was Access.

any suggestion?

It sounds as if the data type of the field in the SQL server may not be
correct. The data types in SQL server are different than those in Jet. You
will find a comparison between Access/Jet data types and SQL data types
here.
