Figures do not show in outline view

I scanned some figures and then imported them to word. But when I switch over
to "Outline View" the figures are just blank. Is does not happen to figures I
create with the Word Picture object. What can I do to fix it cause I prefer
editing in the "outline view", but it is difficult if I cannot see the
figures. I use Word XP

To have an object display in Normal and Outline views, position the
object "In line with text" (Layout tab of Format | <object>).
