File Already Open?

I'm using MS Word 97 and when ever I open a document I
always get the msg:

<file name> is being used by <logged in user>. Do you want
to make a copy? (OK) or (Cancel)

This happens for every word document that I try to open
and I am the only one on this system. There are no other
word documents open. Can someone offer some insight on
what is going on here.

This is usually a sign that you have masses of abandoned temp files on your
computer. See the following FAQ for some advice on cleaning up:
