File association for MS Picture Manager won't change

I searched and was unable to find an answer to this question. Sorry if it
does exist in this forum some place!

Somehow MS Picture Manager got associated with all my JPEG type files. I
went into control panel, folder settings and made the change to the program I
want as first choice, but it won't stick! I see the correct icon in the
folder, but the MS Picture Manager is still controlling those files. It's
probably something corrupted on my machine, but does anyone know how I can
dig into regedit or something like that in order to fix this issue? Many
thanks in advance!

Oh sorry - Windows XP Pro, Version 2002, SP2

I don't recall making any real changes - maybe installed a program like
Skype or some sort of upgrade. Also the usual Windows updates. Virus scans
show no results... but using McAfee.

Thank you for your swift response!

Edit: just got a notice "website too busy to show page" on hitting "post" -
so if this double-posts, apologies in advance!

Which OS? Have you made any changes to your systems since it last worked
"correctly"?
