File Converter problem

Office Standard Edition 2003. I inadvertently converted a Word (*.doc) file
to Unicode (UTF-8) and now the file is unreadable (at least to me). The
file name changed from ComputerEssentials.doc to ~$mputerEssentials.doc in
the process and now does not display anything but my name and some other
generally unrecognizable symbols. The conversion process began when a popup
window asked whether I wanted to make the file readable. I selected OK and
it then requested the Office CD. I complied, and now I have a conundrum.
Need help, please.

The file that starts with ~$ is a temporary "owner" file, not
your original Word file. See
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=211632 "Description of how
Word creates temporary files" for more information. Your
original Word file should be in the same folder as the temporary
owner file.
