File Error Has Occurred

I am trying to save a .doc file as a web page, but I keep getting " a file
error has occurred" message. None of the "Try One Or More Of The Following"
ideas apply. Anyone have an idea of how I can get my .doc file saved as a
web page?

Thanks

I am using Word 2002 and Windows XP SP2. I am saving to a hard drive. Also,
I can save to the same location if I save the file as a .doc file.

Hi mcarpeneto,

Hmmm. Are you saving to the base\root folder of your drive or to a folder in My documents, or other location? Saving web page
files to the root (C:\) with Word web pages can have odd results.

Does File=>Web Page preview work?

If you close Word and use
Start=>Search and recycle all files found with
~$*.*;*.tmp
then restart Word while holding down the ctrl key and start and save a new file as Word web page or webpage-filtered do you get the
same result?

I am saving to a folder in My Documents.

I don't know what "File=>Web Page preview" means, nor do I know what
"Start=>Search and recycle all files found with ..." means. How do I
implement those statements?

Thanks

Hi Mcarpeneto.

Okay :)

File=>Web Page Preview

In Word, use the File menu and select 'Web Page Preview'. Do you still get the error?

Start=>Search

In Windows, click the Start button, choose search, and search
for files with the following exact name string
~$*.*;*.tmp
when found select all of them in the search window and hit delete to send them to the recycle bin.

I made the deletions that you recommended, but I was still not able to save
a particular .doc file as a Web page. On the other hand, there has been a
new development.

I was able to create a Web page using a different .doc file, so I think the
problem might just be with the one file I was trying to convert. I have
taken that one errant file and copied it to a blank page without copying the
final paragraph mark. That effort did not fix the problem, but since I am
relieved to know that the Web Page problem is not systemic and appears to be
just with one file, I am willing to call the problem a fluke and not take up
anymore of your time.

Thank you very much for your help with this problem.

Hi mcarpeneto,

Interesting. Did the File=>Web Page Preview choice work for that file? If so you can then save from your browser, then close Word,
restart and reopen that HTML file in Word.
