File format not valid

Jay

Trying to open a file that windows says is a scrap file.
The file has an extension of .xls.shs but when opened
excel states that 'file format is not valid'.

Ran a virus scan which came back clear. Tryied removing
the extension .shs and reassociated the file with excel
still no luck.

Any Ideas?

I've never used Scrap files in excel, but in Word, you can select a range and
drag it to your desktop.

If you want to use it in another document, you just drag it from the desktop to
the location in the new document.

I just tried do the eqivalent in xl2002 (win98) and got an error message when I
tried to drag a range to the desktop. I'm not sure why I got the error--a setup
option that I didn't choose--or if I broke something.

But you could try it to see if it works for you.

I just tried it again and it worked fine in xl.

Who knows what I did wrong the first 7 times!

But it brought it back as an embedded document inside the worksheet. I could
double click on it and steal the values, but it surely doesn't seem worth the
trouble to me. (Maybe you'll find it more useful, though.)
