"File is located outside your intranet..."

A friend has set up a VPN and is accessing his "shared documents" folder
on his office machine from another location. He cannot, however, use MS
Access because, when he attempts to open a database on the remote
machine, he receives the following error message:


"Microsoft Access cannot open this file. This file is located outside
your intranet or on an untrusted site. Microsoft Access will not open
the file due to potential security problems."

What can we do to get around this?

You receive an error message when you try to open an Access 2002 database from a Web Server:

Intranet site is identified as an Internet site when you use an FQDN or an IP address:

Try adding the address to the trusted sites in internet explorer options

I also get this message if the user's create a shortcut to the database using
the IP address of the server instead of the server name.
