I am unable to change the file location in Word, Tools,
options, File Location, Modify, I change the location,
click ok, Error, the setting could not be created.
Fix???? using Microsoft Word 2000, (9.0.7616 SP-3)

Are you navigating to the locations or just typing it into the windows? Are
you using UNC path or a mapped drive letter?

I had tried to copy and paste the path, I manual browsed
to the path ending with same results, I am trying to
enter in a default location of My Documents on my local
machine. c:\documents and settings\username\my documents.
currently the path is mapped to a shared drive on a
server. Not sure why it picked that path.

Try "\\computername\documents and settings\username\my documents" and see if
a UNC path works.

I've just reread your posting and I see it is YOUR own My Documents that you
want to revert to!!! Sorry. What you need to do is to use My Documents
listed immediately under Desktop and not drill down to My Computer, C drive,
Documents & Settings, etc. The My Documents you see under Desktop is the
same My Documents that you see in the User Profile, but for some quirky
reason only the former will work as a link.

Terry,
thanks for your time, But that doesn't work either. It
must be a registry problem. I'm having the same problem in
Excel. I am unable to setup default File location.

If you start Word in Safe Mode by using Start, Run and type in

winword /a

and press enter. This opens Word bypassing all add-ins, templates, macros,
customisations, etc. Take a look in File Locations and see what is
displayed.
