File menu freezes on open

Word 2003

When attempting to click on "File" to open the file menu, instead of a
dropping down a box with a bunch of line-items to click on ("New...",
"Open...", etc.), I see only a 3D outline of the box. After about 45 - 50
seconds, the box fills in with all the usual line-items.

Please help!!!

Right-click on the My Computer icon on your Windows desktop, left-click

I don't use network mapping. I don't have any drives mapped.

File menu still freezing....
