I want to show the file name in the footer of a Microsoft Publisher document
- just like in Excel or Word - can I do this in Publisher2003?

Step 1: Create a text box (or View > Header and Footer to have one created
on the Master Page for you)

Step 2: Type in your filename.

Simple, really.

Ed, do you think he might want it to auto save the file name at the
footer when he does a File, Save?

Yes.

Unfortunately, as far as I'm aware, that isn't possible. So I detailed the
next best alternative.

That would be a great feature in all programs that create files.

Really? I can't stand it, myself.

If ever I see a document that has it, I think to myself "WHY did I need to
know the filename of your document?!"

The only time I ever wanted/needed that was when I was working on the policy
manual (in Word) and I wanted the policy number at the bottom of each page.
My policies were separate documents and the file name was the same as the
policy number.

Other than that, no need. File names tend to be a bit cryptic.

Sounds like you need a bit better file naming system. ;-)

I have the need to produce several documents, i.e., spreadsheets, forms,
lists etc that are printed out and distributed. Looking at a printed sheet
it can cause a wonder what the file name is when buried somewhere on a hard
drive.
